AI CSAM (AI-generated Child Sexual Abuse Material)
Material that depicts child sexual abuse in photo or video format, generated using artificial intelligence. Often, only parts of a real person (like the face or body) are used to create such content.
COITP (Content of Interest to Predators)
Online content that is attractive to sexual predators and scammers—such as nude images of children or seemingly innocent photos (e.g., a child eating) that are shared in exploitative contexts.
CSAM (Child Sexual Abuse Material)
Content depicting the sexual abuse of children. The term is used instead of “child pornography,” since pornography implies consent—which minors cannot legally give.
CSEM (Child Sexual Exploitation Material)
Similar to CSAM, this term refers to any material created by sexually exploiting a child.
Cyberbullying
Online abuse that includes insults, humiliation, spreading falsehoods, or mocking someone publicly (via posts/comments) or privately (via messages).
Deepfake
Photo or video content created using artificial intelligence to look realistic, even though it is completely fake.
Grooming
The process of gradually manipulating a child to gain their trust for the purpose of obtaining explicit material or engaging in sexual activity. It can happen online, in person, or both simultaneously.
Gooning
An extreme form of compulsive masturbation to pornography, often lasting for hours. It may be a sign of addiction and can lead to viewing increasingly harmful or illegal content.
ICAP (Invite Child Abuse Pyramid)
A pyramid scheme in which predators exchange links to child abuse material. Users earn points or privileges within the group by clicking or sharing more illegal links.
Location Sharing
A feature that lets others see your real-time location. For children and teens, sharing location publicly or without parental knowledge carries serious safety risks.
Mis/disinformation
Misinformation is false or inaccurate information spread unintentionally. Disinformation is false information spread intentionally to mislead, manipulate, or cause harm. Both are used online to recruit, spread conspiracy theories, or influence young people.
Oversharing
Excessively sharing personal information online without understanding the consequences—like posting private details, personal photos, or sensitive data such as your street address.
Phishing
A scam involving fake emails intended to collect sensitive data like bank account details or explicit images.
Phubbing
Ignoring people around you in favor of your phone. The term comes from “phone” + “snubbing,” and is increasingly linked to poor communication and damaged relationships.
Revenge Porn
The distribution of intimate photos or videos without consent, usually as a form of retaliation after a breakup or conflict.
Scam
Any online deception designed to steal your money, personal information, or something else of value.
Self-generated CSAM
Abuse material created by a child themselves—often under peer or predator pressure—that shows them in sexually explicit poses.
Sexting
Sending sexually explicit messages, photos, or videos that simulate or suggest sexual activity.
Sextortion
Sexual extortion—when someone threatens to publish your intimate images unless you send more content, pay money, or comply with other demands.
Smishing
A phishing scam delivered via SMS instead of email.
Stalking
Following and monitoring someone online or in real life—tracking their posts, movements, friends, and activities to gather personal information or create closeness.
