What is Secret Calculator?
At first glance, this app appears to be a regular calculator. However, when the correct password is entered, it opens a hidden vault for storing private photos, videos, files, and even private internet browsing—completely hidden from parents and without any visible trace on the rest of the phone. There are many similar apps on the market functioning as “secret vaults” specifically designed to hide content, making them highly risky for children and teens to use.
What parents should watch out for:
Hiding content from parents
The content stored inside the app is not shown in the phone’s gallery and can only be accessed using a PIN. Without the password, parents have no visibility into what’s being stored.
Additional features that make discovery harder
- Shake to close – a quick shake of the phone instantly closes the app
- Intruder selfie – the app automatically takes a photo of anyone who tries to open the vault with the wrong password
- Fake Vault – a decoy vault showing harmless content while the real content is stored elsewhere
Risk of storing inappropriate images
These apps are often used to store sexually explicit content. If you notice your child using such an app, it’s a serious red flag and requires an open conversation—without blame, but with clearly set boundaries.
Advice for parents
Have regular conversations with your child. Ask questions like: Why is it important to someone to hide content? Do they feel pressure to create or store inappropriate images? Do they know it might be illegal? Conversations are the first step toward prevention.
Set age-appropriate rules and boundaries
As children grow, they need more freedom—but with supervision, understanding, and clear expectations about responsible online behavior.
Get to know the types of apps children use
If you see app names like “Calculator+,” “Vault,” “Private Photo,” “KeepSafe,” or similar, check what the app actually does.
